The United States and NATO hope to test a new anti-missile shield system in eastern Europe. The objective, is only to defend European countries against nuclear attacks from Iran. The Russians don’t have a problem with that in itself, they’re more worried about the side effects of the test.
Russian military officials fear that if the advanced technology missile shield system were developed and perfected so close to Russia’s borders, it would completely cripple the country’s advanced nuclear program. America may be trying to help defend the world against Middle Eastern missiles, but Russia will not allow that to happen at the expense of their own military technology strength.
For all these threats, Russia declared that it would only strike if the US or NATO deployed the shield system around Poland, a step that is not scheduled until 2018. The system would be designed to counter basic nuclear ICBMs, and would be next to useless against Russia’s advanced and extremely sophisticated weapons.
